ARROWWOOD, Alberta -- It may not have been a horse race but less than a point decided spots one to four at the Buffalo Hills ABBI Classic on Wednesday night east of Calgary.
Two Bit Bucking Bulls' 465 Happy Camper finished on top with 85.75 points to earn $4,000 for the Berezay family represented by Josh, and daughter Nevada, in Arrowwood.
By a quarter point, the Wild Hoggs/Holowaychuk's 303 Papa's Rock Star was second for the second week in a row. In New Sarepta the score was 86.25 points, this time around it was 85.5 for $3,000 in earnings. Last week it was $2,200 for a profitable week for the four year-old bucking bull.
Third on the night ended in a tie between Wild Hoggs/Chmelnyk's 342 Ulterra's Teal Steel and Thompson Rodeo's 314 Twist of Barbwire. Both animal athletes score 85 points to earn $1,500 each. Teal Steel placed third in Prince Albert to win $1,800 making him one of only two bulls, both from the Wild Hoggs to place at more than one classic so far in 2017.
Bulls were the theme in the Buffalo Hills on Wendesday as only one qualified ride was made throughout the entire evening of competition. K's Thomson won all the money for an 82 point ride on J-Rip from Two Bit Bucking Bulls in Round 1.
Very commendable was the pen of steer riding cattle, all brahmas, to be noted thanks to Kole Ashbacher. Three of four animals were rode from scores of 66 to 70.5 and the event went off without a hitch. All the cattle stood well in the chutes and the only buck off was controlled by the rider. Suitable cattle helps build our future bull riders.
